I don’t care if you don’t like banjo. You’re going to get banjo and you’re going to like it.

I can’t believe h e’s 73. I think Paul Rudd shared his recipe for anti-aging serum with him.

I lo ve Steep Canyon, but I like them way more without Steve Martin.

Been listening to him for years, here’s a couple personal favorites.

Oh dear. I’m sorry, I like him as a musician! But I heard the same jokes at too many shows.

I gotta disagree. Stevie has great chops. But yup on Steep Canyon Rangers.

Doing most of your aging extremely fast at a very young age helps, his hair turned white when he was like 18.

I will amend. I’d like them fine with Steve if they wouldn’t let him talk between tunes. (Also, no Edie Brickell please).

Second post is necessary, just remembered he did a Tiny Desk Concert about 10 months ago, the last song “ Caroline” alone is worth a watch/listen:

While the show with Steve is fun, music without Steve is so much better.

i was unaware that Steve Martin was also a musician.

He’s purportedly in the top tier of banjo players everywhere - among the very best . This kind of thing is probably more uncommon than it should be, because somebody in the entertainment industry can have whole months at a time not working on projects, and hours at a time on set doing nothing. I guess it takes a special mind to spend that time keeping razor-sharp on banjo rather than boozing and taking ex.
There’s a “rare guitars” shop on Youtube that puts up clips of people coming in to play their wares, and one guy who did a guitar duel with someone else
was an NBA basketball player. Quite good, too.

So good. Got to see them live once.
Toes tapping as I type...

Watched him live - not even close to top tier. But, he is Steve Martin so he can play where the best ones play. My impression of Steve with SCR was that of a really good entertainer and mediocre banjo player.

The “entertainer” thing works against him on stage, I think. I think he *can* play better than he often ends up playing, because he’s focused on the other side of things.

he put out an album back in the day that was comedy on one side and banjo on the other, like late 70's early 80's

agree and VERY MUCH agree on the second part. :)
